The latest charges – eight of them – were revealed when the accused man’s case was mentioned for a third time in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday.
Five charges were listed at his first court appearance on October 19 and another six were disclosed when he again faced court on December 2, a day after he was arrested for a second time at his home.
The man, a former high school teacher at Junee and Coolamon who cannot be named for legal reasons, was refused bail that day and remains in custody.
His solicitor, John Weir, told magistrate Erin Kennedy on Wednesday his client was not required to appear in court for the latest mention.
Mr Weir said he had received part of the prosecution’s brief of evidence in relation to the first five charges, but he had not received any material for the subsequent allegations.
He said the case was likely to go to the District Court.
Ms Kennedy gave the Crown more time to complete its brief of evidence.
She adjourned the case until February 22 for Mr Weir’s reply to the brief.
Police so far allege the accused man abused teenaged boys between January, 1965, and May 31, 1980, with alleged offences at various times in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
He has been charged with 11 counts of indecent assault and with eight counts of buggery.
It is alleged the man abused boys in a number of Riverina centres as well as in the Snowy Mountains and in Sydney.
The man has not entered pleas to any of the charges.
He was charged as a result of investigations by Wagga police as part of an operation called Strike Force Cornet.
It was formed to investigate a number of allegations of sexual abuse of male high school students in the 1960s through to 1992.
Detectives are continuing their inquiries and can be contacted on 6922 2599.
