The NSW Trap Carnival was put on high alert around midday after a firearm was reported missing.
A witness told The Daily Advertiser security prohibited attendees from leaving the competition for roughly an hour while a number of onlookers were searched for the gun.
Police attended the scene a short time later and began investigating the missing rifle.
Inspector Peter Robertson said the missing weapon has still not been located, but detectives have been unable to confirm if it was actually taken.
“We cannot yet rule out the possibility they could have been miscounted or misplaced,” he said.
“Police will conduct a further search for the firearms and continue investigations.”
