Racing NSW project manager Callum Brown visited Wagga on Wednesday to inspect the progress of the works.
Ladex Construction Group have been hired to carry out the project, which involves removing the sand, cement stabilising the base and then adding new sand.
The project, funded by Racing NSW, is expected to be completed by Christmas.
MTC chief executive Scott Sanbrook expects the new fast sand track to be a real asset for trainers.
“It is one of the premier training centres in country NSW with five tracks and we commit to carrying out these projects to ensure we have a high standard of facilities,” Sanbrook said.
Brown and Ladex Construction Group managing director Richard Pottie are both happy with the progress of the works.
“It’s going really well,” Pottie said.
“The stabilising will start next week.”
Some 2000 cubic metres of sand has been removed from the track. It will be re-screened and put back on the slow sand track. The fast track will receive fresh sand, along with timber plinth.
It is the first time these works have been carried out on the fast sand track since it’s construction in 1995.
