Both captain and coach finished unbeaten on 53 as they got their inexperienced team home with nine overs to spare and eight wickets in hand.
Wagga RSL made its biggest total this season, finishing at 7-159 from 40 overs, but it wasn’t enough to trouble the Cats at Robertson Oval.
Jackson Weidemann backed up his first grade recall, top scoring with 36, while Sam Perry (25) and Joe Kenny (24) both made good contributions.
However with the in-form Nicoll continuing his sparkling form from his Riverina commitments, and Aaron Maxwell chipping in with 38, it wasn’t enough to break their long losing streak.
With first, second and fourth grades winning Wagga City scored a comfortable win in the first ever playing for the Hunters Cup.
