Imposing front rower Patrick Sagigi has continued the trend by linking with Brothers.
After three seasons with Junee, Sagigi has agreed to terms with the Wagga club.
Sagigi was involved in an on-field spat with a teammate last season, that led to the front rower allegedly leaving the ground before a game ended.
Brothers captain-coach Ben Black is confident he’ll be much happier in his new surroundings.
“Everyone was probably well aware last year that he wasn’t happy at Junee,” Black said.
“I don’t know what happened, but I gave him call asked him what his plans were for next year and he was keen to have a chat.
“We sat down had a good chat and come to terms.
“I think it is a huge signing for our team.”
The addition of the Sagigi will be a big boost to the Brethren forward pack.
It is one area the club has been concentrating on as they look to prove they can be a finals force.
“We were short of a few forward this year and I think Patty will fit really well into Brothers,” Black said.
“We are happy to have him on board.
“He is still young and willing to learn, but in saying that he is experienced.”
Originally from Queensland, Sagigi was lured to Sydney as a teenager by the prospect of playing for the Dragons in the NRL.
With his dreams shattered by a serious leg injury, Sagigi then built an impressive resume with in the powerful Wollongong domestic competition with Corrimal before linking with the Diesels.
Sagigi struggled with injuries last season after breaking his jaw.
Black believes Sagigi can become the figure point of the Brethren’s forward pack.
It will also increase depth at the crucial position.
“To have Patty on board is a huge benefit for our team and the older boys will help him and I’m sure he will be a huge player for us this year,” Black said.
Brothers are expecting to have locked in more new players in the coming weeks, with new deals still being finalised.
However, the loss of Sagigi is a blow for Junee’s finals hopes.
The Diesels have been firmly entrenched in the top three for the last two seasons, but have been very quiet on the recruitment front so far.
In fact, they’ve yet to formally lock in Matt Hands as captain-coach once more, but it is considered a formality.
Last year’s preliminary finalists are yet to confirm any comings and goings.
