Wallabah Excel was guided to success by Simon and Debbie Dodwell in several events at the Warwick Campdraft.
It was his competitiveness throughout the event – which is considered the Melbourne Cup of campdrafting – that earned him the prestigious Barnes Trophy for most consistent horse.
After spending a week in Queensland Mr and Mrs Dodwell had successful runs in events including the ladies, the Canning Downs, Warwick Gold Cup, stallion draft and the champion of champions.
The couple returned home on Monday and Mrs Dodwell said the Barnes Trophy scrutinised 891 horses for their temperament, ability and type. The award was judged by Gordon Salmond.
“It has been a successful week,” she said.
She said the standard of competition – as always at Warwick – was really high.
Mrs Dodwell said the stallion by Adios Reflect from Wallabah Kate was 13 and the family secured him as a three-year-old.
To fulfill his breeding commitments Wallabah Excel remained in Queensland after the Warwick event to stand at Boonara Performance Horses.
“What we like is that we can all ride him and he tries really hard for all of us,” she said.
“It was a real honour for him to do so well,” she said.
“This is the most prestigious event we go to.”
