For Jordan Little, 16, and Rhiannon Podmore, 16, it’s a dream come true.
Podmore will play on the 17’s mixed team.
“Once you get your name in there, you get looked at more, rather than being just a girl from Wagga that’s never been heard of,” she said.
Little, who will play on the 17’s boys team, agreed the exposure will be invaluable.
“Not everyone gets to do it,” he said.
“Hopefully I’ll get into the opens team.”
The talented rugby league five-eighth played a vital role in Southcity’s successful Weissel Cup campaign.
Trials for the High Performance Program were held in Brisbane, and the Wagga teens look forward to a training camp in December.
“It’s great to have a friend up there to share it with,” Podmore said.
“It’s been amazing, I’ve made so many friends along the way. Playing with people that good brings your ability up, I’ve learnt so much. My whole game, everywhere, has become better, more intense, better technique, ‘cause the coaches there are really good, not that he’s not good (local coach Kevin Salmon), he’s amazing.”
Podmore and Little were at Jubilee Park on Tuesday, playing in the Wagga Premier League competition.
