Cobras gathered after the 7-7 draw, to pinpoint the main factor preventing them from taking the points.
Players agreed the middles were expending too much energy in defence, killing the team’s drive forward.
The coach urged wingers and links to pull their weight defensively in upcoming weeks.
Quolls were pleased to rival the Cobras, all smiles on the sideline after the match.
Spectators who dared to blink may have missed a try in the action-packed match.
The Quolls started hot, forging a 4-1 lead, taking full opportunity of Cobras' errors in attack, intercepting a couple of passes, and scoring off one.
Quolls concentrated players into the middle as they neared the try-line, and Cobras’ links and wingers were too slow to follow, allowing the Quolls to capitalise time and time again.
Cobras switched-on minutes before half-time, producing impressive combinations in attack, and planting the ball over the try-line twice thanks to the agility of try-scorers Andrew Baggio and Darren Reynoldson.
Quolls lost the second half. They seemed to be sluggish in-between phases not working hard enough to set-up the next play.
Quolls’ playmaker Cade Price brought energy to their attack, acting as a decoy, leaving wingers free to score off the long ball.
Cobras’ youngster Lachlan Johnson didn’t look out of place alongside veterans of the game, and covered the wing preventing two tries in the final minute of the match.
Points: 3. Andrew Baggio (Cobras) 2. Cade Price (Quolls) 1. Jordan Little (Quolls)
In the concurrent men’s premier league match, Casuals drew with MJR Electrics 5-5.
In the women’s premier league, AKW Jets upset defending premiers Don Tuckwells Audio with a 7-6 win.
Having lost a number of crucial players in the off-season, Tuckies are yet to win a game.
Regardless, it was an encouraging win for the Jets.
Down 4-1 at half-time, the Jets absorbed advice from coach Kevin Salmon, to drive, wrap-out and score, gained pace and confidence, picked gaps and worked as a unit to turn the result in their favour.
Points: 3. Vienna Randal (Jets) 2. Bailey Porter (Tuckies) 1. Rhiannon Podmore (Jets)
In the concurrent women’s premier league match, Bar Up Bullbars dominated KFK 10-3.
