NARRANDERA Swimming Club’s registration night is Tuesday at 5pm at Lake Talbot Swimming Pool. Narrandera is a haven for “water babies” with a wonderful swimming complex, the Murrumbidgee running through our town, backyard pools, dams on properties, shire wetlands and floods.

THE Rockin’ on East Festival Committee recently acknowledged Narrandera Shire Council’s support for the festival by presenting CEO Judy Charlton and Mayor Neville Kschenka with a mounted “Gold Record”.

THE Narrandera Clay Target Club’s event on October 16 saw 100 targets shot from individual shooters handicaps. Shooters from West Wyalong, Hay, Barellan, Griffith, Leeton and Narrandera participated. Overall winner on the day was Craig McVittie of Barellan. He shot 99/100 from 24 metres, broke his handicap and now joins elite shooters from 25 metres.

IT IS National Bird Week and we are in the throes of an Aussie Backyard Bird Count. National Parks and Wildlife Service is coordinating a census on the Australian white ibis and sulphur-crested cockatoo. The census runs to October 23. Sightings may be reported through environment.nsw.gov.au/surveys.

THE HSC runs from now to November 4. Some 5000 more students are sitting exams this year than in 2011; this year’s tally of 69,350 students is the highest recorded; and there are 118 written exams.
