Women all around the world have been acknowledged for their contribution to agriculture on International Day of Rural Women last Saturday.

One of these, Riverina Dorper sheep farmer Sally Jones, who comes from a long bloodline of family farmers, said she hopes the day will also give more women the opportunity to consider a career in agriculture.

“I think it is important women have the option to consider farming as a career and follow it if that is where their passion lies, what is equally important is they have access to education to make a positive contribution to the sector," Ms Jones said.

In NSW, 27 per cent of those employed in the agricultural sector are women with 13 per cent employed full time.
