Just as importantly for the club, the key position player said the season has helped him rediscover his love for the game and has given every indication he’ll be back next season.
“He’s given a verbal commitment and unless something drastic changes with his work or something, we’re confident he’ll be here,” CSU president Tristan Robinson said.
“He’s really bought into the culture and said when he came up (from Victoria) he wasn’t enjoying his footy that much.
“But he’s got that burning passion back for footy again.”
Foott, who hails from Ocean Grove, near Geelong, relished the role of marquee player at CSU.
He was in the Pigs’ best in 10 of his 16 games playing key position roles at both ends of the ground and going through the midfield.
Foott won the best and fairest award with 92 votes, six ahead of the consistent Tennyson Vance, sealing the award with a best on ground in the final round against North Wagga.
Assistant coach Jack Egan was third with first year students Rob Herzfeld and Diarmid Cleary finishing in the top six.
The Bushpigs are confident they’ll retain most of their playing list for a second season under coach Daniel Athanitis who oversaw vast improvement.
Finishing with two wins was below par but they also gave a few clubs an almighty scare.
“There were a couple of disappointing games that got away,” Robinson said.
“If we can reverse a few of those results…next year we want to be that side pushing for fifth spot. We’re going to be realistic, but that was our two year plan.”
Robinson said the only confirmed departure is Tom Falvey and if the Bushpigs can pick up a couple of experienced players, they’ll rely on improvement within their group to put them among the finals contenders.
The club’s netballers returned to the top of the league with a grand final victory over North Wagga.
Goal attack Sarah Hooper claimed the A grade best and fairest after a superb first season at the club.
