The pavilion is flooded, the ground outside waterlogged and the horse area unsafe to be ridden on.
With only four dry days forecast before October 15, the committee made the “heartbreaking” decision to cancel the 70th show.
“Even if we had no rain between now and the pavilion would still be unuseable,” The Rock Show president Jim Payne said.
The entire committee voted to cancel the show due to the state of the grounds.
With the showgrounds situation near the base of The Rock Hill all the water running off the hill settles on the showground and golf course.
The Rock golf club (who share the same grounds) are closed indefinitely.
