Collingullie farmer Troy Stone accused regulatory body WaterNSW of gambling with farmers’ safety and livelihoods as the Murrumbidgee River reached its 8.3 metre peak while Burrinjuck Dam stood almost completely full.
“I can accept an act of God but not an act of man,” Mr Stone said.
“There used to be 15 per cent airspace in Burrinjuck Dam at all times but now there’s a ‘variable airspace’, which is just variable safety. We could get a biblical flood if this isn’t managed properly.”

The flooding has destroyed thousands of hectares of what was a potentially great harvest, while graziers were running out of land for their livestock.
