John Kjeldsen has received six calls within the last fortnight from scammers claiming to be from the Australian Tax Office and the “Commonwealth Debt Recovery Office”.
“They were quite aggressive,” Mr Kjeldsen said.
“One of them said I only had two days to pay them or I’d be in big trouble.”
Acting Inspector Roy Elmes said phone scams have been hitting the city in waves for months.
“One week it will be a tax scam and the next week it be an arrest warrant-based scam,” Inspector Elmes said.
“I would encourage people to look up the organisation calling them in the white pages, call that number, and check the legitimacy of the call that way.”
