Twenty-seven schools and preschools across the region took part in Schools Tree Day on Friday in the lead up to National Tree Day on Sunday.
Lutheran Primary School teacher and tree day organiser Mel Hannaford hopes the event will create a new environmentally aware generation.
“It’s a great opportunity for the kids to learn about preserving and caring for the environment,” she said.
“The kids got very involved and really enjoyed the day.
“In class we often talk about ways to look after our planet and being stewards of our earth.”
4000 seedlings are expected to be planted across the Wagga region between yesterday and Sunday.
