The now 14-year-old received a NSW Ambulance certificate of appreciation for his efforts to help save Bethany Mills’s life in November last year.
Zach and Bethany were mountain biking at Pomigalarna Reserve when Bethany fell off her bike and sustained serious injuries.
Zach said adrenaline kept him able to keep a clear head.
“I saw Bethany lying on the ground. At first I yelled out for help, then called Triple-0,” Zach said.
I stayed on the phone with (the Triple-0 operator) and told me what I needed to do.”
Zach will be doing his first first-aid course in a fortnight, and wanted to get the message out there to anyone who may find themselves in a similar situation to stay calm and don’t overreact.
