Wagga police duty officer, Acting Inspector Roy Elmes, said police executed a search warrant at the motel about 7pm on Tuesday after receiving certain information.
Inspector Elmes said police found a .22 rifle which had been shortened to appear like a pistol.
“Police also located a number of .38 calibre and .22 calibre bullets, as well as an indictable quantity of ice valued at between $4000 and $11,000, depending on purity,” he said.
“As well, there was other drug paraphernalia that indicated supply.
“And a number of mobile telephones were also seized.”
It is alleged ice was found in a plastic bag and in a number of smaller resealable plastic bags.
Police also found a glass pipe they allege is for the purpose of smoking ice.
They said they had no reason to believe the motel was involved in the matter other than being the location where the arrest was made.
After being refused police bail on Tuesday, 23-year-old Grant William Arthur Bett appeared in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday by videolink with the courthouse cells.
Bett said nothing while his case was mentioned by solicitor John Weir.
Mr Weir said there was no application for bail by Bett at this time.
He said that as the amount of drug allegedly found was greater than the indictable amount a brief of evidence would have to be prepared.
The case was adjourned to August 24.
Bett has been charged with seven offences, including supplying methamphetamine (ice), possessing 27.97 grams of ice, possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, not keeping a firearm safely and possession of ammunition without a permit.
In other court news, a woman allegedly involved in an incident at Borambola during which shots were allegedly fired has been charged with four offences.
Lana Camilleri, 32, of Ambarvale in Sydney, appeared in Wagga Local Court via videolink with the Silverwater Women’s Correctional Centre on Wednesday, a week after the case was transferred from Parramatta Local Court.
She is charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon, accessory before the fact of armed robbery, concealing the serious indictable offence of another person and supplying a prohibited drug (140g of methamphetamine).
A co-accused in the November 21 fracas at a rest stop – 25-year-old Ahmad El-Hajjar – will stand trial in Wagga District Court in April next year.
Camilleri’s case was adjourned to July 27.
