The gritty national sport seemingly has no place on stage but it is what singer/satirist Denis Carnahan does with it that has Rugby League – The Musical kicking goals.
Who remembers that recent game where Rabbitohs were down two points against the Dragons and Greg Inglis tried to kick a field goal?
Carnahan does and he wrote a song about it.
Carnahan said the league has all the elements that make a good musical – villains, heroes, pantomime, betrayal and controversy.
“The show sets out to explain why rugby league is a musical, it just doesn’t have music,” Carnahan said.
The show will be at the Civic Theatre on August 17 and tickets are available from 6926 9688.
