The class, titled Respond Empower Liberate, offers basic martial arts lessons so women can better protect themselves.
PCYC club president David Bardos said the class provides a sadly much-needed service to women in the community.
“Every single time we do a workshop females would come up to us saying ‘I wish I knew that five years ago, when I was experiencing really bad domestic violence issues,’ [or] ‘I wish I knew that previously how to prevent an assault’,” Mr Bardos said.
While Mr Bardos did not believe Wagga was a dangerous place, the course was also there to make women feel safer.
“Not everything is about strength,” he said. “But any female regardless of weight height or age should be able to defend themselves against a predator.”
The workshop will be held this Saturday from 1.30pm to 4pm, more information phone 6921 5873.
