They outscored The Rock-Yerong Creek over three-quarters but it’s cold comfort when you’re down by 30 points at quarter-time.
Jets co-coach Sam Fisher said in the build-up that they wanted to know where they stood compared to the top teams. Afterwards, his cohort Darren Jackson wasn’t too disappointed, apart from the early reality check.
“They’re a well-drilled side,” Jackson said.
“They were great – that’s the first time all year we’ve been smashed out of the centre. It surprised me a bit.
“I’m disappointed we didn’t win but to come back… I thought for three-quarters we were pretty good. But you can’t let them do that to you."
Backman Declan O’Rourke was tireless while youngster Jeromy Lucas shone up forward. Tall Josh Plozza made an impact late in his second game back from injury.
