Speaking in her cover story for GQ's July issue, Kardashian, 35, said Swift, 26, gave the all clear on a now infamous lyric in the opening verse of her husband's song Famous: "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex...Why? I made that bitch famous."

"She totally knew that that was coming out," Kardashian told the publication.

"She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn't. I swear, my husband gets so much shit for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved. What rapper would call a girl that he was rapping a line about to get approval?"

However, Swift -- who released a statement when the song was released in February saying she had not given approval for the lyric and had actually "cautioned [West] about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message" after West alleged she had approved the lyric on his Twitter account -- has again denied that she approved the line.

In a statement beginning with Swift saying she "recognises the pressure [Kardashian] must be under" and that Kardashian is "only repeating what she has been told by Kanye West", Swift said the information provided by the reality star was "incorrect".

"Kanye West and Taylor only spoke once on the phone while she was on vacation with her family in January of 2016 and they have never spoken since," Swift's statement to GQ read.

She went on to say that West, 39, never even told her the words "that bitch" would be used in the song and that she "heard it for the first time when everyone else did and was humiliated".

"Kim Kardashian's claim that Taylor and her team were aware of being recorded is not true, and Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone," the statement concluded.

September 13, 2009: "I'mma let you finish"

The animosity between Swift and West began at the VMAs in 2009, when West stormed the stage after Swift's You Belong With Me beat out Beyonce's Single Ladies for the Best Female Video Award.

In a much parodied display, West took the microphone to say, "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!"

West attempted to mop up the incident (which prompted President Barack Obama to call West a "jackass") with a series of apologies: first on his blog, then on Jay Leno, and finally in a series of tweets before the 2010 VMAs which ended with, "I'm sorry Taylor."

September 12, 2010: Swift releases Innocent

At the VMAs the following year, Swift released her new song Innocent. With lyrics like, "It's okay, life's a tough crowd/32 and still growing up now", the song was widely believed to be about West.

November 5, 2010: Kanye says his VMA behaviour was selfless

In an interview with US radio station KDWB, West said he was not arrogant in storming the stage the previous year, but was being "selfless". West also claimed he had helped Swift's career, saying his actions resulted in her having "100 magazine covers and sell a million in [her] first week".

2011-2015: The ceasefire

West and Swift managed to largely remain out of each other's hair, attending a few mutual red carpets without generating any headlines.

August 30, 2015: Swift presents West with the Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs

It seemed their hatchet was pretty close to being buried when Swift presented West with the Vanguard Award at the 2015 VMAs. She was even willing to make fun of their previous awkward moment at the awards, concluding her speech with, "All the other winners, I'm really happy for you, I'm going to let you finish, but Kanye West has had one of the greatest careers of all time."

February 11, 2016: West releases Famous

Just when you thought the feud was over, West came out of nowhere with a line mentioning Swift in his song Famous on his new album The Life of Pablo, which is released during his Yeezy Season 3 show at New York Fashion Week: "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous. Goddamn, I made that bitch famous." While West alleged Swift gave permission for the lyric, Swift said she did not. Swift's brother Austin showed his disapproval of the lyric by performatively throwing his Yeezy sneakers in the bin and posting the footage to Instagram.

February 15, 2016: Swift appears to reference West during Grammys acceptance speech

In her acceptance speech when 1989 won the Grammy for Album of the Year, Swift appeared to speak about how West had treated her.

"As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame," she said.

"But if you just focus on the work and you don't let those people sidetrack you some day when you get where you are going some day you will look around and you will know that it was you, and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world."
