WIN revealed last month it would air Channel Ten programs after signing a “long term agreement” with the network and ending a 30-year association with Nine.
The hour-long Nine News bulletin, which currently airs on WIN’s primary channel at 6pm, will be shafted – replaced by TEN Eyewitness News from 5pm.
WIN’s local news bulletins – aired on regional networks in Queensland, southern NSW, Victoria and the ACT – will follow at 6pm.
In order to air the news in the prime-time slot, Channel Ten game show Family Feud has been relegated to channels Eleven and One but it will air at the same time (6pm).
Popular news and current affairs program The Project will be shown on WIN’s primary channel and retains its current slot (6.30pm-7.30pm).
WIN’s CEO Andrew Lancaster announced the programming decision on Thursday, quashing earlier fears WIN TV would struggle to maintain its current levels of local content in regional areas.
“Our 30 minute regional local news bulletins will take their place at 6pm on our primary WIN channel, giving our viewers one of the most comprehensive evening news and current affairs line-ups in the country,” Mr Lancaster said.
“The WIN Network has always been committed to producing strong regional local news coverage and our position in this [new] line-up reinforces the importance we place on keeping our viewers informed at both local and national level.”
WIN’s All Australian News bulletin – which features highlights from regional news services across the country – will continue to screen on its primary channel.
“Our new partnership with TEN is a great opportunity for us to revisit how we deliver our bulletins to our regional viewers to ensure we are giving them the best news coverage possible,” Mr Lancaster said.
“Add to that a slew of strong-performing shows and a network whose performance is growing and it bodes well for exciting times ahead.”
The programming changes begin on July 1. Viewers will not need to re-scan their television.
