According to Barellan coach Will Overs, Conlan had been “floating around” for some time but the ruckman only committed to the club recently.
“He’s a paramedic, so he’s been looking for a job (elsewhere) but I don’t think he’ll have one this year,” Overs said.
“Him and his girlfriend have jobs in town and having them both around is good for us and good for the community.”
Conlan returns to his home club from Victoria where he last played in the Victorian Amateur Football Association with Prahran Assumption Football Club.
He joins a long list of players who have made the move to Barellan which includes Kabe Stockton, John Evans, Joel and Jeremy Hourigan, Matt Watson, David Dore, Ryle Conlan, Oliver Delves and Jack Tyrell.
Considering Barellan had struggled to entice people to the club, Overs is understandably excited to add Conlan to his burgeoning list.
“He’s very good footballer, a good ruckman and forward,” Overs said.
“He’s a good shot on goal and while he’s a big fella, he’s very mobile and can run all day.”
2016 will be Barellan’s second year back in the Farrer League after returning from the Northern Riverina League.
The first year back was a tough one with the Two Blues taking out the wooden spoon.
One year the wiser, Overs said there was a renewed enthusiasm around the community.
“At the start of year, it is always quite exciting but when you add some new people to the list it adds even more to that excitement,” he said.
“This time last year, we didn't know what to expect but our second time in, everyone knows what to expect.
“The feeling has been quite good, hopefully we can have a good night Tuesday and Thursday and then into the season.”
FFL supporters will get their first look at Barellan’s new recruits when the Two Blues clash with Charles Sturt University on Saturday at Peter Hastie Oval.
CSU was the only team Barellan beat in 2015 but Overs is taking the game on its merits alone.
“There’s quite a bit of change as uni comes and goes, you don’t know what to expect but I’m pretty sure they've kept their core group together,” Overs said.
“They’ve got a number of good players, they’ll be strong.”
