The 19-year-old Sydney woman was driving north near Tarcutta at about 3.30pm on Monday when her Toyota Prado lost control, rolled over and slammed into a tree on the centre verge of the road.
The woman, who was trapped in the vehicle, suffered a broken arm, head injuries and possible spinal injuries. Her three-year-old daughter also suffered a broken arm.
A rescue helicopter landed on the highway and airlifted the pair to Canberra Hospital.
One southbound lane was closed for three hours, throwing holiday traffic into chaos.
Off-duty nurses and doctors stopped and rendered first aid to the woman after the VRA extracted her from the car. The cause of the accident is unknown.
