Coming three months after Group Nine back Ethan McGuire left Tumut for Southcity, the signing of O’Sullivan will give the Bulls a dynamic new centre partnership in 2016.
O’Sullivan was a sensation with West Wyalong in the Group 20 premiership last year and also starred for Riverina in the Country Championship series.
Unlike McGuire, who missed a large slice of the Group Nine season with a broken ankle, O’Sullivan cut a swath through club and representative football in 2015.
Southcity captain-coach Nick Skinner is certainly thrilled to have O’Sullivan on board to form what could be the most lethal centre partnership in the bush.
Speaking on Wednesday, Skinner described O’Sullivan as “one of the best players” for Riverina in their Country Championship triumph in May.
“We’re been lucky to pick him (O’Sullivan) up,” Skinner said.
“He’s come across to Wagga to live and decided to play with us.
“He had a really good year and I thought he was one of the best players for Riverina.”
For Southcity, the recruitment of O’Sullivan is the jewel in the crown of a club which lacked some thrust in the backs last season following the departure of Peter Little and Will Merritt.
Little and Merritt were a slick pairing for Southcity for several years before breaking ranks to join Junee last year.
Although McGuire and O’Sullivan are the only big new names on the Bulls books for the upcoming season, Skinner is more than satisfied.
“Our backline is certainly looking all right,” Skinner said.
“The club is really pleased.”
Skinner said the tentative plan was for McGuire and O’Sullivan to make their debut for Southcity at the West Wyalong Knockout on February 26-28.
“I hope so at least,” Skinner said.
“West Wyalong is a great carnival, and we’ll just have to wait and see who will be there.”
As the two new centres prepare to burst on the training paddock for Southcity, Skinner is still playing a waiting game.
Skinner suffered a serious and season-ending knee injury in August and is steadily recovering from corrective surgery.
“It’s coming along fine, but there is still plenty of work to do,” he said.
“I’m making good progress but I have to keep working at it.
“My plan is to be back for round one.”
The Bulls will open the Group Nine premiership with a blockbuster duel with Tumut at Harris Park on April 9.
Significantly, Southcity has also landed teenage Cowra and Country talent Daniel Jeffries, while Simon Pass has returned to the Bulls fold.
