It was the bad news Temora had hoped they wouldn’t get – gun forward Matt Wallis won’t be in the blue-and-white this year.

Wallis joined the Kangaroos in 2014 and played in the club’s third straight flag under Mark Kruger.
He formed a potent partnership up forward with teammate Matt Harpley, kicking 50 goals or more in both seasons at the club.
A change in employment in October saw Wallis return to the family farm near Mount Gambier in South Australia but he and the club had held out hope he would return for a third season.
However, Wallis has confirmed to The Daily Advertiser that he won’t be returning for 2016.
“It’d be good to be back there but things just didn’t work out,” Wallis said.
“I liked the area and I would’ve liked to stay but the stars just didn’t align.”
Temora coach Christin Macri had feared for sometime that Wallis may not return and said he’ll leave a signficant hole.
“Huge loss, huge loss for us but obviously with what’s going on, career and work come first,” Macri said.
Macri said Temora had worked on contingency planning, with two forwards (Tim Shea and Daniel Hespe) among their four Canberra recruits, given the doubt around Wallis and Harpley’s ongoing recovery from a knee reconstruction.
Wallis said he’s close to joining a new club. He ruled out joining another Farrer League club but was reluctant to reveal where he’ll be plying his trade until his signing is complete.
He said fond memories of his time and success at Temora will stay with him.
“I enjoyed every minute of my time there. It was a great culture and a great atmosphere and the right people in all the right places that you want around a footy club,” Wallis said.
The only disappointment was the way last year ended with the 22-year old gutted after Temora’s elimination final loss to Coleambally.
Wallis added that he was honoured to captain the Farrer League representative side last year, which he led to a memorable victory against the Picola League with a four-goal personal haul.
