The AFL experienced one of it’s darkest days on Tuesday when 34 past and president Essendon players were found guilty of administering banned drugs by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The bombshell has left the Bombers on the hunt for 12 players to fill in for this season due to the 12-month suspensions imposed.
Aylett, 23, was de-listed after two years on Essendon’s list in September and has since signed with Victorian Football League (VFL) club Werribee.
Aylett said a return to Essendon is unlikely.
“I wouldn’t have thought so,” Aylett said about a return.
“I’m playing with Werribee in the VFL, and I’m really excited about a new challenge.
“I still want to make it back to the AFL but I’m not expecting it to happen here. I think Essendon are probably after more mature aged players.
“I just want to play some footy again and I would rather get back in the system the hard way.”
Aylett visited his former Essendon teammates on Tuesday after the bad news arrived.
“I haven’t really thought about (a return) to be honest,” he said.
“I caught up with them (on Tuesday) and I just really feel for them.
“I want to support the boys, I spent two years with them.”
Aylett hopes to finally enjoy an injury-free season.
