A torrential downpour caused the cancellation of the match the last time they were scheduled to meet.
It is an important clash for both teams, with Turvey Park poised to capture back top spot on the points table with a victory, while Saints can keep alive their chances of success in the final series with a win.
Turvey Park are expected to welcome back important regulars, Kate Looney and Jane Wadley to the line-up this week, after both were unavailable against the Warriors. The pair has been in top form with the bat this season and are vital parts of the defence.
While Turvey will still be without short stop, Amanda Gooden, her place is being adequately filled by youngster, Jamila Piercy, particularly in the batting department. The schoolgirl has taken the lead in the competition’s A grade batting averages (.611) with a perfect three from three last week.
Along with Piercy, Looney and Wadley, Turvey has gutsy second-bagger, Sarah Stewart in the top ten averages and Belinda Dennis ‘knocking on the door’.
By contrast Saints have only Morgan Pearce (.600) in the top ten, with two of the ‘Kooringal connection’, Gemma McGlynn and Desi-Ann Calder batting .400 the next best performed.
The Saints had a convincing win over Lake Albert last Saturday, with batting to the fore, but they were also tight in defence. However their fielders should be given more work this Saturday if Turvey bat to their potential, and will have to be at their best to limit the runs.
In defence, Turvey was not up to their usual standard at last start, and will be eager to return to their best with expected danger players to be Saints’ Kadison Hofert, Tessa McGlynn, Calder, Pearce and Gemma McGlynn.
In the other fixture on Saturday Lake Albert will take on the powerful Blu-Js.
The Blues have been in top form this season, with strong wins over South Wagga Warriors (twice) and Saints, lowering their colours to only Turvey Park.
As with Turvey Park and Saints, these two teams had their first scheduled contest washed out on October 31.
As has been often chronicled, there’s no doubting the talent at Lake Albert with Jess Swaysland, Alicia McLean, Sarah Rose, Shae McMahon and Jess Grant all most capable with the bat.
Much will depend on the ability of the Lake Albert defence to restrict the scoreboard pressure of Blu-Js early in the match.
In most of their games to date, the Lake has given their opponents too many runs in their first innings, meaning they have to play catch-up softball for the rest of the game.
