The decision to send the Bulldogs in didn’t work out as planned for the Blues after Tim Cameron led the charge.
After returning from a side strain, Cameron finished unbeaten on 71 to provide the bulk of the resistance.
Initially failing to build on their good start, the Bulldogs slumped to 7-101 before Cameron worked wonders with the tail.
Captain Todd Henderson thought the ability to maintain his composure was the best aspect of his innings.
“We were looking forward to having him back and it obviously wasn’t what we were expecting from him but will take it any day,” Henderson said.
Henderson said the good start was the backbone for the innings.
Gage Baxter scored 29 before being the first man out with the score at 41, taking some of the pressure off the middle order.
“It’s well and truly our best score, it doubled our previous best but I think it was the start that Joe Kenny, Gage and young Brad McMillan got us off too,” Henderson said.
“At one stage we were 2-70 so anytime we can get off to a start like that we are in the position to get a decent total.”
Terry Willis was the best of the Blues’ bowlers, taking 4-17 off 14 overs.
Mitch Sykes and Blake Harper both snared two wickets.
With the chance to secure their maiden win of the season, Henderson believes the day one effort has boosted the club.
