Kahlefeldt is tackling the full Ironman distance for just the second time but is considered a top 10 chance after a stellar debut in the ranks with a podium finish at Melbourne this year.
Kahlefeldt has been acclimatising in Kona and cannot wait for the main event on Sunday morning, Australian time.
“Well I've been in Kona now since last weekend. I knew this race was big but it's crazy here,” Kahlefeldt said.
“Thousands of people everywhere all over the roads, all charged up and all nervous.
“It's a great vibe.”
Kahlefeldt said his preparation has been spot on for the four kilometre swim, 180km bike and 42km run.
“I'm looking forward to racing on Saturday,” he said.
“From what I've seen it going to be hot, windy and hard. But nothing that comes as a huge shock.
“My preparation has gone to plan but will learn a lot in my debut on the big island.
“I can see now why it takes some time to get it right.
“But I’m looking forward to getting out there and mixing it with the worlds best over the full distance for my second time.”
Kahlefeldt sent a big thank you to all his supporters ahead of the big race.
