It comes as the weather bureau warned of a strengthening El Nino and revealed September was the third driest on record nationwide.
Local agronomist Don Kirkpatrick said the current hot spell was poorly timed.
“The back end of September and early October are the business end if you want big yields,” he said.
“A large potential yield could be slowly slipping away.”
