Fresh off a maiden finals win, Bogut began to realise his 30-year old body may not last much longer at the top level.

But where others may seek the help of dieticians or nutritionists, Bogut turned to New Zealand documentary Is Sugar the New Fat?  After watching the documentary while in Australia in August, he removed all sugar from his diet.

"It's really worked wonders for me," Bogut told CSN Bay Area.

"It's unbelievable, man. (Sugar) is in absolutely everything. I have a couple friends that are label readers. I used to give them so much (hassle), telling them, 'Man, just eat it. Stop reading the label.' And now I'm one of those guys."

Bogut's new look is aimed at prolonging his impressive career. The 2.13m centre has undergone numerous surgeries since he was selected as the first pick in the 2005 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He moved to Golden State in 2012, and picked up his first ring last season.

Golden State star Steph Curry said the team is impressed with Bogut's new physique and mobility.

"He does some stuff that you don't expect from a guy that size," Curry said. "His skill level is so high. When he's able to move and be agile ... it's fun to watch."

Interim coach Luke Walton shared Curry's praise, saying, "Bogut's been amazing so far."
