Mater Dei were unfortunate not to score three goals; a penalty kick that shot straight into the bottom right hand side of the net did not count, as a player ran into the box before Grace Di Trapani had kicked the ball.
Mater Dei, up 1-0 at half time, quickly recovered from the devastating moment, with a goal kicked over defenders’ heads, past the goalie and into goals.
Kooringal’s Belle Leiper had a couple of heart-stopping runs up the wing, but Mater Dei’s Alex Williams and Brooke Gaylor worked relentlessly to stop her. Gaylor capitalised twice; her first goal off a stunning free kick, where she cleared a quarter of the field to score. Centre back Maddy Stephens saved them from strife, preventing the opposition from getting near enough to shoot.
