She is only the second women to do this in the event’s history which spans more than 50 years.
Former Governor-General the Honorable Dame Quentin Bryce opened the event in 2010.
Mrs Cassidy of “Foylewood”, Ariah Park, is from a mixed farming property and she is also winner of the NSW Rural Women’s Award.
She will find out next week if she is successful in winning the coveted Australian Rural Woman of the Year.
“I was really touched it is quite an honour and I was surprised when they asked me to open Henty,” she said.
“I am really passionate about the future of farming the role that innovation and research and development has in securing that future,” she said.
This philosophy fits perfectly with Mrs Cassidy’s role as chief executive officer at FarmLink, Temora.
The grower-run research organisation is integral in delivering results at a ground level.
Mrs Cassidy said she was also looking forward to the upcoming FarmLink Open Day on September 11.
The deputy director general of the NSW Department of Primary Industries, Michael Bullen, will officially open the FarmLink Open Day.
This year's FarmLink Open Day program includes themes ranging from wheat, variety selection, timing and rotations to maximise yield. There will also be livestock information.
