The South Wagga Rotary Club has recognised the tireless campaigner for his community work.
One of Mr Bowcher’s biggest victories came just last week with the appointment of a prostate cancer nurse based in Wagga to serve the region.
He resigned from South Wagga Rotary so he could focus all his attention and energy on prostate support for local sufferers and their families in 2009 after 38 years of community service.
He focused his attention to securing a prostate nurse for the city two years ago.
Through persistent lobbying and determination, he managed to convince the politicians of the importance this service would have to the region.
Mr Bowcher was a member of South Wagga Apex for 18 years, holding many positions, including president.
He joined South Wagga Rotary Club in 1986, serving for more than 20 years, holding many board positions, including president.
Mr Bowcher founded Wagga Business Machines and also started a branch in Griffith. He sold both businesses after 30 years of trading.
He employed and trained apprentices and assisted in procuring the Electronics Trade Course at Wagga TAFE.
Robert was a foundation member of the Wagga Prostate Cancer Support Group starting as vice-president, then moving into the position of president.
He has a passion for helping people in need, donating time and resources to create a safe environment for these people to live with their families.
