Instead of selling merchandise or buying flowers and badges, the 16-year-old from Junee parted with her brunette locks to raise money for Cancer Council.
More than 100 people came to the Junee Bowling Club on Friday night to watch as Miss Hocking’s hairdresser, parents and brother took turns to shave her head.
“I like helping people and doing big things in the community,” she said.
“I thought about shaving my head and I wanted to do it for something I believe in.”
Miss Hocking is still getting used to the look and feel of her shorter hairstyle and said she was shocked by her own shadow when she realised it had no hair silhouette.
“I was OK with it at first but I almost cried when mum out the mirror in front of me,” she said.
“It feels like my hair is in a pony tail but then I touch it and I’m like, oh.”
Miss Hocking raised $5700, which exceeded her target of $3000.
