Sandy will give an author talk on Monday, September 21 at 2pm at the Wagga Wagga City Library in the Community Learning Space.
AJ Mackinnon, known to his mates as Sandy, was born in Australia in 1963.
He spent much of his childhood between England and Australia, travelling with his family on the last P&O liners to sail between the two countries.
His Australian boyhood and early teaching career was spent in Adelaide.
After leaving “The City of Churches” bound for England, Sandy took the scenic route.
He sailed by yacht, paddled by river-canoe, hitch-hiked and galloped on horseback.
He even spent a brief time in prison as a guest of the Chinese government after accidentally swimming into their sovereign waters.
Later, after being attacked by Komodo Dragons, he thought “there’s a book in this” and so he wrote The Well at the World’s End.
The Unlikely Voyage of Jack de Crow is Sandy’s account of a remarkable year long voyage from North Wales to the Black Sea.
This 5000 mile journey in a tiny Mirror dinghy was intended as a three day trip down the River Severn, somehow things got out of hand.
Sandy lives in the Victorian High Country, where he teaches English, mathematics, Latin, art and drama, and recounts his life’s adventures to any willing listeners.
His students don’t believe a word he says.
His interests include painting, philosophy, writing, conjuring and homemade fireworks.
He has written and directed a number of plays and musicals.
Do not miss this opportunity to hear about Sandy’s rollicking, raucous, hilarious and unpredictable adventures across the globe.
