With both teams playing for their season, the two teams were left gutted at the final siren with the scores locked at 12.11 (83) apiece.
It leaves both GGGM and Griffith six points, or a game and a half, outside the top five with just three home and away rounds to go.
Both teams were left feeling empty as the result sunk in.
“It was anyone’s game all day and it’s a bit of a nothing feeling at the end of it,” GGGM coach Jayden Kotzur said.
“I haven’t had a look at where that leaves us but it was a bit of a dull feeling for both sides.”
Griffith led by 13 points at the 20 minute mark of the final term, but were run down by a determined Lions outfit.
Two quick goals from GGGM put them within a point, before Lions teenager Dan Foley produced a brilliant tackle to save his team from defeat.
He missed, and the behind tied the scores just moments before the final siren sounded.
Griffith coach Brandon Mathews was disappointed his team let the four points slip.
“At the end of the day, Ganmain have been a successful side for a lot of years and they didn’t throw the towel in,” Mathews said.
“The way we’ve been over the years, we’ve probably got to learn to close them out.
“It’s not a good experience now but hopefully we learn from it.”
With a strong breeze to one end, GGGM got out to a 19-point lead at quarter-time, only for Griffith to level things up at the main break.
GGGM failed to use the wind to full advantage in the third and it showed as Griffith stormed to the front in the final term.
But the Lions were not done, and fought back to share the points.
Mathews said the Swans only had themselves to blame.
“We probably missed a few opportunities throughout the game, but in saying that, they probably did too,” he said.
The Swans went into the game heavily undermanned with Mick Duncan, Che Jenkins, Michael Griffiths, Richard Malone, Tim Mathieson and Tom Groves all not playing.
James Lawton was a late out for GGGM.
Ben Walsh continued his good form with a dominant performance for the Lions, while Curtis Steele, Sam Hatty and Andrew Clarke were also strong contributors.
Dan Peruzzi, Chris Cerato and Henry Delves were three of Griffith’s best.
