The once popular Mundarlo Road circuit has been revived by the Wagga and District Car Club.
President Peter Price said Wagga had a proud history in the sport but without the rally drivers need to travel long distances to compete.
“We are trying to build the club back up again,” Price said.
“Hopefully we can get back to the stage where we have (full) rallies again as it’s important and blokes can got out there and have their fun in the cars rather than have it on streets.”
Registrations opened late last week and already the club has eight confirmed competitors.
The maximum field size is 30 and the club is hopeful they’ll reach that mark.
The club has had to retrain a number of officials to oversee the safety of the event.
Riverina Traffic Services have come on board as principle sponsors for the event which will play host to rounds of both the NSW Rallysprint Series and ACT Regional Rally Series on August 28.
