The evenly-matched teams battled it out for four quarters, with TRYC ahead by just one point at half time, and taking the game 9.6 (60) to 8.4 (52).
It was one of the most poignant wins of the season for TRYC coach David Pieper, ecstatic to pick off their arch rivals.
“It’s good to get one back,” he said.
“We wanted to improve on our first round.”
Pieper anticipated a tough match, and when Marrar delivered he relished the challenge.
“It was very close, very physical, a really good contest,” he said.
Pieper was pleased to see the team show more grit this week after a couple of uninspiring wins.
“We haven’t had the pressure [in recent weeks] and our skill level was off due to that.”
TRYC played their best footy in the third quarter, chipping away to establish a 14-point lead.
“Before that we weren’t playing how we wanted to play due to Marrar’s pressure,” Pieper said.
“We finally broke it open with our run.”
Throughout the match Magpies lead goal scorer Andrew Carey knocked away eight goals, bringing his season total to 50.
Charles White played a crucial role in the back pocket, and was named as TRYC’s best player.
“He was amazing, he didn’t get beaten on the back line,” Pieper said.
Pieper cherishes White’s consistency; named among TRYC’s best players for six consecutive weeks.
“He’s keeping the player he’s playing on to no goals, and he’s also creating; running hard and running forward.”
Marrar moved down a rung on the Farrer League ladder, out of the coveted top five and into sixth position.
The close-contested match reflects well on the standard of the competition according to Pieper.
“It goes to show that from second place down to sixth there’s not much in it,” he said.
