The Dragons have three of their last four games to move into seventh, one win outside the top five, but will come into the crucial game against Kangaroos undermanned.
Josh Bryant is in doubt after he picked up an ankle injury in the last play of Saturday’s win over Tumut.
Bryant has been a sensation since his mid-season switch from Yenda but was injured as he scored his fourth try against the Blues.
Captain-coach Michael Henderson is going to give the centre until the last minute to prove his fitness but the odds are not ideal.
“It’s only 50-50,” Henderson said. “We’re training on Friday and we’ll see how he pulls up.”
Kurt Hinchcliffe is away with family commitments and his loss is coupled by Scott Matthews’ absence due to a knee injury.
Henderson will be joined by Tim Rice in the starting team and is confident he’ll have the weapons to match Kangaroos
“He (Hinchcliffe) will be missed this week and it’s obviously not good for us but we have a couple of young guys who will fill the void there,” Henderson said.
“Myself and Ricey will start and Hayden Philp and Liam Martin have been going really well."
Taking on the Wagga side, who currently occupy fifth, at Nixon Park on Sunday the Dragons have the chance to go around their rivals.
The Dragons were unlucky to lose the last time the two teams met, with a miraculous field goal from Adam Hall the difference.
Henderson is expecting a big test.
“Since I’ve been here we haven’t won three in a row so it’s a real challenge for us and is a crucial game,” Henderson said.
“It’s going to be tough – Roos are a good side and apparently picked up a good player in the middle so it’s going to be a real test for us.”
