Getting on top early, the Bulls led 15-8 after 20 minutes and it wasn’t until late in the game before Albury got comfortable.
The Steamers rolled in eight tries to three, but coach Mick Raynes said his team didn’t put in the same dominant performance.
“It was a completely different game with week and I think Tumut will walk away confident they can beat us next time,” Raynes said.
“They were leading after the first 20 minutes and were playing a faster, more committed brand of rugby than we were.”
Raynes thought his team’s superior fitness made a big difference in the end after finally getting on top in the last quarter of the game.
With the Bulls having the Steamers’ measure to start the game, forwards Liam Krautz and Ryan Schishka helped get his team on top.
With the pack tested, early both flankers started the Steamers roll on with support from prop Arran MacDougall.
Unusually it was through the forwards that the Steamers scored most of its points, with fullback James Olds the only back to score.
With the try, seven conversions and three penalties Olds finished with a personal tally of 38 points.
