For some it is one of their happiest moments. For decades the Wagga Riding For The Disabled (RDA) has provided memorable times for its participants.
Now the organisation has teamed up with a stock and station agent to run a clearing sale and horse auction in a bid to raise funds to support the continuing work.
Crittenden Mehegan livestock agent Scot Mehegan of Wagga will run the horse sale on May 17 at the RDA site.
The auction starts at 10am and he is expecting about 30 horses to go under the hammer plus an assortment of 200 lots of saddlery and gear.
The items are not restricted to the horse industry and there will be tools to suit those on small acreages.
“The facilities here are wonderful and it is an ideal location to hold an auction,” Mr Mehegan said.
Mr Mehegan said the auction provided vendors with an opportunity to sell their goods and receive a return.
He said the way the RDA would benefit was in having the agent’s commission donated.
However, he encouraged people to consider the option of donating an item to be sold with 100 per cent of the return going to the RDA.
“Wagga is a generously spirited region and I think it will go well,” he said.
Mr Mehegan said he had first hand experience in watching the important work done by the RDA and the auction was a way of giving back to the community.
Wagga RDA president Bev Amery said she was optimistic about the interest in the sale.
She said a lot of people were aware of the work done by the RDA.
“We ride here five-and-a-half days a week,” she said.
Mrs Amery encouraged both vendors and buyers to participate in the event.
Entries are still being invited and there will be both led and ridden sections for horses.
Donations of saddlery, small farming and clearing sale goods have been called for.
