The reigning premier produced a performance that suggested the round one loss to Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes was just an aberration as they blew Tigers away, 16.6 (102) to 6.11 (47).
An eight-goal opening quarter was the difference as the Demons celebrated club champion Brad Aiken’s 300th first grade game in style.
CGP co-coach Brett Lenon said it had been a long two weeks since the opening round loss but believes the Demons took great benefit from it.
“It’s always hard to lose and you want to win every week,” Lenon said.
“But you learn more from a loss and we had to look at a few things.
“It was a good jolt that we needed to have our pants pulled down like that. Everyone had a look at themselves and realised we had to pull our finger out.”
Lenon believes the Demons’ hunger proved the difference early on.
“We talked a little bit about being hungry during the week and we showed that we were fairly hungry,” he said.
“We were hungry at the contest, our work rate was up and when you work your guts out like that you get the result and the reward.”
Matt Beckmans was awarded the Anzac Commemorative Game best-on-ground medal.
He kicked three goals and got plenty of the footy through the midfield and across half-forward.
Jimmy Kennedy was very good in defence, while Herry Perryman was another strong contributor in what was an even team performance.
Tigers were competitive after the opening term but still lost each quarter of footy.
Both teams have several key players to return in coming weeks.
Will Haines, Kal Sykes, Lachie Moore and Matt Kennedy were out for CGP.
Pat Delaney, Lahn Shephard, Nick Ryan, Charlie Bance, Pat Gaynor, Jacob Osbeiston and Tom Power are still to return for Tigers.
CGP has the bye next week, while Tigers host MCUE.
