In fact, Luke had more in common with Kim Hunt than he first thought.
Luke will join scores of others Saturday morning on a bike ride dedicated to Lockhart’s Hunt family, who were found dead on their family farm about six months ago.
The event will kick off from Jubilee Park, with other riders to join from The Rock and Mangoplah before arriving in Lockhart.
“Before it was very meaningful to raise money for others, but it’s got extra meaning now,” Luke’s mother, Kim Stojanovic, said. “It means so much to Lukey.”
Kim Hunt and Luke Stojanovic were friends while at the Liverpool Brain Trauma Unit.
Both of Lockhart, both rocked by shocking brain injuries and both dedicated to the same cause of helping others in similar situations.
The ride will raise money for the Liverpool Brain Trauma Unit and the Wagga Base Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
Fund-raiser organiser Mandy Strong said more than 100 people are expected to ride.
“We feel the ride is more about Luke and Kim’s friendship,” she said.
“It’s a dedication to Kim as a very strong and determined person that helped so many other people that were similar to her.”
Ms Strong, the mother of motocross star Jackson Strong, said Mrs Hunt was an “inspiration” to Luke.
“Luke could see how she progressed,” she said. “They were battling similar battles and they each knew what the other was going through.”
Ms Stojanovic said the ride would be emotional for Luke, who was in “complete and utter shock” after the Hunt family tragedy.
“It was very ironic the way they met each other and I think it's why this ride is so special,” she said. “It’s just become this amazing event for an amazing person.”
The ride starts at Jubilee Park at 7.30am, with other starting points at The Rock and Mangoplah between 9.30am and 10.30am. It falls on the same day as the Lockhart Vintage Verandah Fest from 10.30am.
