The Wagga Art society is deeply integrated into the city’s cultural history and has been fostering talent for 60 years.
The society was successful in obtaining a $2000 grant through Wagga City Council to upgrade their kitchen, install storage cupboards and create space within their Small Street studio.
“We needed the extra space in the main area for people to work comfortably,” Wagga Art Society president, Cheryl Wheeler, said.
“It was very important because we do have a very large membership.”
Art society members will formally thank councillors at an afternoon tea on March 9.
An exhibition will be held from March 8 for two months at the Wagga Art Gallery and feature a collection of work from the city’s art gallery in conjunction with the work from almost 40 Wagga Art Society artists.
“We’ve got all these exciting things happening and we just want to show people how much we are a part of the society,” Mrs Wheeler said.
“We find that as people retire they are able to come and do what they have put off for many years.
“It’s a nice place to come and work with like-minded people.
“Time disappears when you’re doing something you love.”
The Wagga Art Society aims to stimulate artistic talent within the community.
