Travers was reportedly thrown from his mount, Trevor Sutherland-trained Tom Karrooz during the HD Smart Jewellers Maiden Handicap (1200m).
In front of shocked spectators, riderless Tom Karrooz cleared the track's inside rail before he was eventually caught and returned to Sutherland. The race was won by Neil Osborne-trained gelding Taumotu, while the minor placings went to Our Blazing Lady and Condoleza Clarkie.
Meanwhile, Wagga trainer Chris Heywood continued to benefit from a rare sporting partnership with son Nick. Jockey Nick Heywood guided Combine, trained by Chris, to victory in the Royal Hotel Class 2 Handicap (1400m) in Tumut. Fellow Wagga trainer Wayne Carroll took out second place with Zone.
