NSW struggled to be all out for 206 in a slow start to Wagga's first Sheffield Shield match yesterday.
Victoria batted out four overs late in the day and will resume their innings at 0-11 this morning.
On a day where 4670 poured through the gates at Robertson Oval, it was the Victorians that stole the show.
After a lacklustre beginning, where neither team made an inroads in the first six overs, Test bowler Peter Siddle struck Victoria's first blow.
He dismissed Ryan Carters for seven, after the NSW opener edged one to Cameron White at second slip.
Fellow opener Scott Henry fell shortly afterwards after being rattled by a Chris Tremain bouncer.
Struck on the hand by the former NSW bowler in his previous delivery, Henry then ballooned an edge to Matthew Wade behind the stumps.
Kurtis Patterson and Nic Maddinson got to Blues through to lunch as the pair put on the biggest partnership for the match.
The young pair put on 84 before Maddinson fell just short of his half century.
Maddinson got caught on the back foot and edged a Dan Christian delivery to Matthew Wade for 49.
The Blues lost both set batsmen when Patterson (42) became the victim of a mix up with captain Moises Henriques and was run out at the bowlers' end.
Henriques tried to get the scoreboard moving with Peter Nevill, only play an expansive shot and the hear the call cannon into his stumps.
The Blues lost six for 56 as they slumped to be all out in the 87th over, leaving the Bushrangers a tricky 16-minute period late in the day.
Maddinson said it was a tough day for the team who never gained any momentum.
"(The pitch) was a tough and tricky wicket to score on, but I don't think it brought about a lot of the dismissals," Maddinson said.
"There were some pretty cheap out which we are pretty disappointed about."
After coming in a 2-23, Maddinson had to play a more steady innings, but was happy with his form before losing his wicket.
Maddinson was also impressed with the large crowd who came out to watch.
"It was an excellent turn out and it surprised me the amount of people that got here," he said.
"It was excellent to see the local community come out and support cricket.
"It's a lovely looking ground and I think it's going to be a great four days."
Rob Quiney (9) and Chris Rogers (1) will resume batting for Victoria in the morning.
