The David Kennedy-trained three-year-old led all the way to take out the $10,000 South West and Riverina Derby (2147m) but is set to line up in the heats of the Victoria Derby Saturday night at Melton.
After the race Kennedy was still undecided if he would take the son of Sportswriter south.
"I'll see how he pulls up in the morning," Kennedy said.
"Hopefully he pulls up good and we go, but if he doesn't we won't."
Sporty Spook has drawn barrier five in the second heat of the lucrative classic, but has to contend with five other last-start winners.
Currently the $41 outsider of the field, Kennedy is brimming with confidence.
"It's a bad draw, a good field and you have to run in the first four to make sure you qualify," Kennedy said.
"There is five good chances it in and if he had of drawn on the fence it would be a different scenario but it looks like we while have to go back at the start.
"That's not really the go with him, he likes to be up on the speed, but I'll make my mind up in the morning."
Sporty Spook stopped the clock in an impressive mile rate of 1:58.6, smashing the three-year-old track record of 2:00.0 sent in 2005 by Jimmybgood.
He finished 11.9 metres in front of Casino Grin, with Cams Victories another 8.3 metres away in third.
The win was Sporty Spook's third in four runs this season.
He scored wins at Temora, Junee and Leeton and finished fifth in the $40,000 Simpson Memorial at Menangle three starts back.
He finished second in a group one, only a head off Its Only Rocknroll in the NSW Breeders Challenge, before having a spell and Kennedy has been impressed with how he's progressed this season.
"He went good and he's been going good," Kennedy said.
"He got a little bit keen in the middle as I had to chase him up to hold the lead and he fired up, but found plenty at the end."
After three-year-old features didn't stand up at Leeton on MIA Breeders Plate night or at Junee last Sunday, Kennedy was relieved to secure the run.
He's been disappointed nominations have been falling away and the prizemoney goes unclaimed.
