In Wagga yesterday for the "official" launch of the City-Country blockbuster in the city in May, Daley confessed he could not believe the rapid and commanding development of Equex Centre.
"I was only here (Equex Centre) six months ago, and it's changed so much," Daley said yesterday
"It's a very good venue, and I'm sure it will be only get better."
Part of high-powered contingent including NSW Rugby League and Country Rugby League dignitaries, Daley yesterday shared centre stage with Temora superstar Trent Barrett as City-Country was delivered to Wagga.
After an an absence of 13 years, City versus Country will return to Wagga on May 3.
The last time Wagga hosted the historic game was in 2002 when 8342 attended the game won 26-16 by City.
Like Daley, Barrett was swept away by the substantial improvements made at Equex Centre to bring the ground up to the required standard for the rugby league drawcard.
And Daley is adamant the continued growth of the venue will act as a sporting magnet for other major events, possibly even NRL premiership games.
"This is what the biggest inland city in NSW has needed," the NSW Origin coach said.
"When you're talking about seven to nine million dollars worth of football you have to have the right facilities.
"This (City-Country) could just be the start."
Daley, Barrett and the other big-hitters inspected the work already carried out at the ground - and were told of the future plans for the venue.
For Daley, the changes since his last visit to Wagga have come fast.
The roof on the old grandstand has been raised, allowing for a series of "boxes" to be built three metres above ground level, with access by newly-installed set of stairs at each end.
Speaking to The Daily Advertiser, Daley said the extension of the western hill area would only enhance the venue.
"That'll make a difference as well," he said.
Wagga deputy mayor Dallas Tout told the gathering the increase in size of the hill would lift capacity to 10,000.
Daley is adamant Equex Centre will entice people across the Riverina - and further afield - to attend the City-Country game.
"People will travel to a venue like this," Daley said.
Wagga Rugby League president Steve Kimball yesterday confirmed two "glassed-in" corporate boxes would be the crowning glory of the new grandstand.
Kimball said original plans for open-air viewing areas at either end of the stand had been scrapped.
"I really wanted them glassed-in," Kimball said.
"I think it's a great addition."
